Wyatt Jurasin ran for two touchdowns and caught a third as Northern Michigan (2-5, 2-5) beat Wayne State, 33-21, in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football game at Northern Michigan Saturday afternoon.
Jurasin scored on runs of 1 and 3 yards in the first half as Northern turned a 7-0 deficit into a 17-7 lead by halftime.
Doug Griffin cut the lead to 17-14 with a 54-yard run in the third quarter, but Jurasin caught a 10-yard TD pass from Shaye Brown early in the fourth quarter to stretch Northernís lead to 27-14.
Jurasin finished with 122 yards on 31 rushes. Brown completed 19 of 30 for 233 yards.
The other two scores for Wayne State (3-5, 3-4) came on a 37-yard pass from Carl Roscoe to Dominique Maybanks in the first quarter and a 1-yard run by Chet Privett in the fourth quarter.
Ferris State 30, (at) Michigan Tech 27: Ferris State (5-3, 5-2) spotted Michigan Tech (4-3, 4-3) a 14-0 lead as Charlie Leffingwell scored on an 18-yard run and Jordan McConnell caught a 7-yard scoring pass from Tyler Scarlett. But Ferris State QB Jason Vander Laan ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more to lead the Bulldogs back. Vander Laan completed 15 passes for 131 yards and ran 31 times for 218 yards. Scarlett completed 13 passes for 116 yards.
Grand Valley State 23, (at) Northwood 17: Michael Ratay scored on runs of 1 and 3 yards in the fourth quarter to bring Grand Valley (6-2, 4-2) back from a 17-10 deficit. Ratay carried 27 times for 196 yards and Isiah Grimes completed 14 of 24 for 200 yards. Mark Morris completed 16 of 28 passes for 168 yards for Northwood (2-6, 1-5).
(At) Saginaw Valley State 47, Hillsdale 34: Saginaw Valley (7-1, 7-0) took a 34-14 halftime lead on the strength of five touchdown passes from Jonathon Jennings, three of those to Jeff Janis and the two others to Andrew Dillon. Jennings added two in the second half, one each to Janis (14 catches, 331 yards) and Michael Albrecht, and finished with 28 completions in 39 attempts for 541 yards and seven touchdowns. Sam Landry threw for three TDs and rushed for one for Hillsdale (4-4, 4-2).
(At) Albion 28, Alma 24: Dominic Bona completed touchdown passes to Cody Crawford, Zachary Brewer, Sage Alward and Zach Brigham and passed for 218 yards for Albion (5-2, 3-0). Jarrett Leister threw for two TDs and Jon Bricker ran for one for Alma (0-8, 0-4).
Olivet 21, (at) Adrian 17: Olivet (6-1, 2-1) won it on a 19-yard pass from Braden Black to Kyle Bryson with 12 seconds to play. Black completed 15 of 32 passes for 229 yards and one touchdown. Damon Brown rushed for 209 yards and one touchdown for Adrian (6-2, 3-1).
(At) Hope 27, Kalamazoo 17: Hope (6-2, 3-1) built, then squandered, a 17-0 lead before closing out the victory with 10 straight fourth-quarter points on a 30-yard pass from Michael Atwell to Matt Kroll and a 31-yard field goal by Evan Finch. Shawn Jackson had a pair of 2-yard TD runs in the first half. Justin Danzy threw two TD passes as Kalamazoo (3-4, 1-2) rallied to catch up.
