Ann Arbor — Washtenaw County and Ann Arbor are joining forces to encourage motorists to turn off their engines when standing still.
MLive.com says officials have launched a new website at www.motor-smart.org to help schools, businesses and residents spread the word about the environmental and health damage caused by unnecessary vehicle idling.
The site has downloadable templates for logos, bookmarks, car window decals and parking lot signs. It also has suggested wording for handouts and newsletters, PowerPoint slides for presentations and educational videos about idling.
An Idling Reduction Task Force has been meeting for the last two years to explore methods of reducing unnecessary engine idling.
The City Council declined to pass an ordinance two years ago to create fines for idling, deciding instead on an educational approach.
