Elegy for a tai chi master
Rocker Lou Reed, 71, died last Sunday while doing tai chi with his “musician hands” and gazing at the trees near his home in Amagansett, according to an obituary by his wife, performance artist Laurie Anderson. The account was published in the East Hampton Star. “Last week I promised Lou to get him out of the hospital and come home to Springs,” Anderson wrote. “And we made it! Lou was a tai chi master and spent his last days here being happy and dazzled by the beauty and power and softness of nature.” Reed had a liver transplant performed at the Cleveland Clinic in April, but recently his liver disease was found to have worsened. “Lou was a prince and a fighter and I know his songs of the pain and beauty in the world will fill many people with the incredible joy he felt for life,” Anderson wrote.

According to a new book, “Double Down: Game Change 2012” by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann, Mitt Romney’scamp rejected New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie for their presidential team over concerns about his health and weight. Romney poked fun at the hefty Christie’s girth, saying, “Guys! Look at that!” while watching a video of Christie without his suit jacket on. (Christie, who had lap band surgery, has since lost a considerable amount of weight.) The book also offers dish on the Obama ticket, claiming the president and his team considered replacing Vice President Joe Biden with Hillary Clinton, and that Bill Clinton “exhausted” Obama, who preferred him “in small doses.”

According to Sheen, his son, Bob, suffered a rash on his face after visitation with his mother, whose house is full of pet lizards and insects, and that he and his brother are “terrified” of her house. Ranted Sheen: “She’s as awful a parent and a person as you can possibly draw up.” And ... who married her?
