Norm Parker, a former assistant coach at Michigan State and Eastern Michigan, has died at age 72
The Iowa City Press-Citizen and Des Moines Register said a University of Iowa official confirmed Parker’s passing.
Parker was best known for his work as Iowa’s defensive coordinator under Hawkeyes coach Kirk Ferentz from 1999 until his retirement in 2011.
Parker was the Spartans’ defensive coordinator from 1990-94, and their linebackers coach from 1983-89.
Parker, a native of Hazel Park, earned undergraduate and masters degrees from Eastern Michigan in 1965 and 1967, respectively. He was the offensive line coach for EMU in 1968 and from there went on to various assistant coach positions at Wake Forest, Minnesota, Illinois, East Carolina, MSU, Vanderbilt and Iowa.
