The Titansí offer to Ken Whisenhunt to become their head coach included a salary that was $1 million more annually than what the Lions offered, according to a report.
Paul Kuharsky of ESPN attributed the information in his report to sources.
Were the Lions given an opportunity to match or exceed the Titansí offer? That is not certain, though they were prepared to dispatch a private plane to San Diego on Monday to fly Whisenhunt to Detroit for a second interview.
Whisenhunt, the Chargersí offensive coordinator the last two seasons, on Monday evening accepted the head coaching job with the Titans.
The Lions on Tuesday named Jim Caldwell their head coach.
