Southfield defensive end Malik McDowell, the No. 3 player on The Detroit News Blue Chip list, reportedly enjoyed his official visit to Florida State over the weekend.
McDowell (6-6, 295), rated a five-star prospect by Scout.com, is unusual in that he is still uncommitted with National Signing Day just 16 days away. He has been offered a scholarship by all of the top programs nationally, including Michigan and Michigan State.
McDowell’s father Greg talked to ESPN (pay site) over the weekend while Malik was in Tallahassee.
“I talked to him (on the phone Saturday) and from our conversation he’s having a good time down there,” Greg said. “He’s real comfortable there and he has a great feeling about having an opportunity there. … He got to see the whole atmosphere and the environment himself."
McDowell, rated the No. 7 defensive end in the nation by Scout.com, still wants to take official visits to LSU and Ohio State.
