You’ve heard of products being so simple to install that a child can do it? Well, 8-year-old Payton Noble did the installation of the new Sylvania Zevo interior lighting system in his father’s pickup.
Payton’s dad is Brian Noble, marketing manager for the automotive aftermarket products produced by Osram Sylvania, the lighting company based in Hillsboro, N.H. Osram Sylvania recently launched its Zevo line of aftermarket lighting products, some for inside a vehicle, others for outside.
The Interior Strip Kit includes self-adhesive strips of LED (light-emitting diode) lights that simply plug into a vehicle’s 12-volt electric outlet. Put them where you want them, plug it in and use the wireless remote control to select from 16 colors, 16 brightness levels and five modes of illumination.
You can take your vehicle’s interior from quiet and lightly lit to a flashing, strobe-lighted nightclub on wheels.
The Zevo system also offers plug-in extensions so you can light not just the front seat footwells but an entire vehicle interior with as much as 20 feet of LEDs.
The basic kit retails for $35. Extending to a full 20 feet brings the total to around $85, said Brian Noble.
Noble noted that Sylvania has been the world’s largest manufacturer of LEDs for all sorts of applications, automotive and otherwise, and with the new Zevo kits is adding simplicity to the installation process for those who want to customize or personalize their vehicles.
“As LED applications in automotive lighting continue to become more popular, we’re taking the technology to new levels and giving auto enthusiasts options that help them legally customize their vehicles,” Noble said. “The ZEVO line includes a number of high-impact products that provide vehicle owners with flexible styling options inside and out, and have the added benefit of being easy to install.”
In addition to the Sylvania Zevo Interior Strip Kit, other products in the new high-performance lighting line include:
■Zevo LED Retrofit Lights for dome, map and license plates applications;
■Zevo Fog DRL (daytime running light), which Sylvania says is the first performance fog lamp with a C-shaped light guide that automatically adjusts to provide appropriate day or night illumination levels;
■Zevo Sealed Beam LED is a 7-inch round headlight designed for older Jeep and Ford vehicles with a “crisp, white light” that allows an LED plug-and-play alternative to halogen headlamps;
■Zevo DRL Pipe, a daylight running and accent light kit, again with crips, white light that automatically adjusts to day or night conditions;
■Zevo DRL Pixel, a DRL running and accent light kit that uses five LEDs for a contemporary pixilated appearance.
Noble said the exterior lights kits can be installed in around 15 minutes — even by an adult.
Sylvania Zevo kits should be available from various automotive and big-box retailers.
