Tigers stars Miguel Cabrera (MVP), left, and Max Scherzer (Cy Young) pick up their awards Saturday in New York. (Special to Detroit News)
And the award goes to ...
OK, we already knew, so the excitement lacked on that front.
But it made Saturday night no less special for Tigers stars Miguel Cabrera and Max Scherzer, who were in New York to pick up their hardware.
Cabrera won his second consecutive MVP award, after hitting .348 with 44 homers and 137 RBIs.
Scherzer won his first Cy Young award, after going 21-3 with a 2.90 ERA and 240 strikeouts in 2141⁄3 innings.
The awards were voted on by members of the Baseball Writers Association of America.
The awards dinner in New York was the reason Cabrera and Scherzer missed TigerFest at Comerica Park on Saturday.
