Farewell to a former Tiger

Gages 140 (words, not characters)

Ill use this space, when its regrettably necessary, to say a few words about recently deceased Tigers.

If there is anything sadder than a death notice, its one that goes unnoticed.

Tim Hosley died last week. His funeral in Spartanburg, S.C., was Sunday.

Hosley, 66, was a catcher for the Tigers in 1970-71 before longer stints with the As and the Cubs.

In 1969, when he hit 30 minor-league homers, Hosley looked like a candidate to play longer than he did for the Tigers. But he finished with only 28 at-bats in two seasons for them.

Hosley had a noteworthy best game as a Tiger, though, hitting two home runs (in consecutive innings) with five RBIs off Mike Kekich in a 1971 victory over the Yankees.

Hosleys best game, therefore, isnt forgotten and neither is he. Condolences to his family.
