Novi City Manager Clay Pearson has resigned, announcing Tuesday he is heading to Pearland, Texas, where he will take up the city’s management in March.
Pearson was appointed city manager for Novi in 2006 after serving as assistant city manager since September 2000. A nationwide search for his replacement will begin soon.
“Our 13-plus years in Novi have been a great experience and amazing journey,” Pearson said Tuesday, referencing his family in a statement. “I have had great elected leaders to work beside on important issues and opportunities.
During his eight years with Novi, Pearson was responsible for the internal operations of the city, which has a 2013-14 budget of $56.1 million and a AA+ credit rating.
Previously, Pearson worked for the city of Elgin, Ill., for more than a decade in various capacities, including assistant city manager.
Pearson’s last day with Novi will be Feb. 28 and he starts in Pearland on March 10.
The announcement comes a day after Novi announced it had appointed Carl Johnson as chief financial officer and finance director. Johnson is a certified public accountant and partner with Plante Moran PLLC. In his new role with the city, he will oversee Novi’s finance and treasury operations.
Johnson begins his duties Wednesday, succeeding former finance director/treasurer Nevrus Nazarko, who left the position in June 2013.
