Metro Times Blowout, the annual mega-sized celebration of Detroit music, will unfold April 30-May 3 in venues in Detroit, Hamtramck and Ferndale, organizers announced Tuesday.
Last year’s event was spread over two weekends, the first in the Blowout’s traditional home of Hamtramck and the second in Ferndale, following a launch party at Detroit’s Majestic Theatre complex. Last year also saw the festival moved out of its late February/early March home to a warmer springtime slot for the first time in the festival’s history.
This year, Blowout has condensed back down to one weekend, but has added a list of bars in Midtown to its roster of host venues. Nineteen venues have been announced so far, and more than 25 will be included in the final list, organizers said in a release.
The kickoff party will be held April 30 at Detroit’s Magic Stick, and more than 300 artists will perform at various venues May 1-3. This year marks the Blowout’s 17th year.
Artist submissions are now open at mtblowout.com; full artist lineups and schedules are due in April.
A Blowout-themed “announcement party” featuring Detroit artists Illy Mack, Cold Men Young, Sleepless Inn and After Dark Amusement Park will be held Feb. 14 at Hamtramck’s New Dodge Lounge.
