Nate Davis of USA Today, in his first mock draft, says the Lions will select Texas A&M receiver Mike Evans with the No. 10 pick in the first round.
Davis: “Calvin Johnson has plenty of years left, but the wear and tear is starting to show. Evans is another big body (6-5, 225) who would probably flourish in single coverage against second-tier corners.”
Evans eclipsed 1,000 yards receiving in each of the past two seasons for the Aggies. He caught 82 passes for 1,105 yards and five TD in 2012 and 69 for 1,394 and 12 TD in 2013.
In the Aggies’ 49-42 loss to Alabama on Sept. 14, Evans caught seven passes for 279 yards.
Davis’ projections for the top three picks:
1. Texans: Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel
2. Rams: Texas A&M OT Jake Matthews
3. Jaguars: South Carolina DE Jadeveon Clowney
