So, is the big Manchester United vs. Real Madrid soccer match taking place at Michigan Stadium or not?
Worldsoccertalk.com reported Friday that the International Champions Cup match would be Aug. 2 in Ann Arbor. And Ann Arbor has only one venue appropriate for such an affair – the 109,901-capacity Big House.
On Tuesday the initial venue list for the eight-club event was announced, and Michigan Stadium was not included. However, two more cities will be announced on Feb. 20, so there is hope for soccer fans in southeastern Michigan.
Cities announced Tuesday were Arlington, Texas; Charlotte, N.C.; Chicago; Denver; East Rutherford, N.J., and/or New York; Glendale, Ariz.; Philadelphia; Pittsburgh; and Washington.
The championship match will be at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.
Participating teams in the International Champions Cup, in addition to Manchester United and Real Madrid, will be Manchester City, Liverpool, AC Milan, Inter Milan, AS Roma and Olympiakos.
The matches will run from July 26 to Aug. 4.
