Police are asking for the public’s help in the fatal shooting of a Troy gas station clerk Saturday.
Officers were called to the Clark gas station at South Boulevard and Rochester Road on Saturday at 1:28 p.m. after two customers who couldn’t find a clerk found the body behind the counter.
“Two teenagers went in to buy pop and they looked around and there was no one to wait on them,” Capt. Robert Redmond said. “They called out and no one answered and when they peeked over the counter they found the clerk with a gunshot wound to the head.”
The victim was identified as a 64-year-old Rochester man. His name has not been released.
The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office said it conducted an autopsy and released the body to a local funeral home.
Police are unsure if robbery was a motive, Redmond said.
The gas station entrances on South Boulevard and Rochester Road were cordoned off with police tape Sunday night. The lights inside the On the Go station shop were still on but no one appeared to be inside.
A woman at the West Bloomfield Township home of the gas station owner, whose name was obtained through public records, declined to comment.
Investigators were canvassing local businesses to obtain surveillance footage that could aid the investigation. Police are asking anyone who visited the gas station between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday to call Troy police at (248) 524-3477.
