A woman struck a man in the head with a samurai sword Thursday evening in an armed robbery attempt on Detroit’s west side, according to Detroit police.
A man was walking in the area of Joy Road and Stout about 6:40 p.m. when a man and woman attempted to rob him, according to Deputy Chief Rodney Johnson.
The woman, armed with a samurai sword, took a swing at the victim, leaving a 5-inch gash on the victim’s head, Johnson said. No items were taken from the man and the would-be muggers fled.
“It is different,” Johnson said. “I’ve not heard of anyone using a sword to commit a crime; a knife and handgun, but not a sword.”
The victim was taken to Sinai Grace. His condition wasn’t immediately available.
Police are searching for the man and woman.
