Police released a cell phone photo of a man they say stabbed a 14-year-old on a Detroit Department of Transportation bus on Wednesday during an argument.

Shortly after the incident occurred, police arrested a man in connection with the stabbing, but later determined he was not the suspect they were seeking.

A witness provided police with a cell phone photo of the man and officers are hoping the public will be able to identify the man from the picture.

The stabbing occurred around 5:50 p.m. in the area of Dexter and Lawrence. The suspect and the boy were traveling on a bus when they got into an argument. The suspect stabbed the boy in the chest.

The 14-year-old, who is not being identified by police, was taken to Childrenís Hospital where he was listed in critical condition. An update on his condition was not immediately available.

Police say they matched the cell phone phot with a mug shot they believed to be the suspect. The resemblance was enough for police to arrest the man. The victim picked out the man from a photo line up and police arrested him.

Further investigation revealed the arrested man was not the suspect they were seeking in the stabbing.

Police are asking that anyone with information contact the Tenth Precinct Detectives Unit at (313) 596-1040.
