Tigers' Max Scherzer won't negotiate deal during season

What about your contract, Max?

The good thing about the first day of spring training is that it gets obligatory questions, as well as their non-answers, out of the way.

Such as the questions that had to be asked of Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer on Friday — followed by definitive answers he couldn’t provide.

Will your contract issues get resolved before the regular season starts, Max, and will you be here at this time next year?

“I want it to happen, but I won’t drag it on,” Scherzer said. “This could be a major distraction, so I’m not going to negotiate during the season.

“If it happens great; if not, hopefully we can resolve it in November.”

And about still being a Tiger?

“I can’t answer because I can’t speculate like that,” he said.

Sorry, in other words.

Nothing new.
