Michigan State commit Malik McDowell said Sunday he will not visit Florida State and Ohio State, after all, according to Josh Newkirk of GoBlueWolverine.com.

McDowell, a five-star defensive lineman from Southfield, announced his commitment to Michigan State, against his mother’s wishes, on Feb. 5, but did not send MSU his binding letter-of-intent.

Earlier this week, McDowell’s father said the family would visit Florida State and Ohio State in their attempt to resolve the matter. However, Southfield coach Tim Conley told The Detroit News that those visits probably would not take place.

McDowell apparently confirmed as much on Sunday.

“I just talked with Malik McDowell,” Newkirk wrote on Twitter on Sunday. “He confirmed he is still solid W/MSU. He is taking no more visits. He has talked with no other coaches.”

Newkirk added: “Malik said he has no interest in any other programs. He is just waiting to sign the papers with MSU before April 1.”
