New Tigers manager Brad Ausmus doesn't look like a rookie

Gage’s 140 from Lakeland (words, not characters)

It would serve no purpose to compare Brad Ausmus’ first camp in Lakeland, Fla., with those Jim Leyland ran.

Leyland had his own way of doing things. Ausmus is just getting his feet wet.

But what can be compared is Ausmus’ first camp to what you might have expected.

Especially if you expected a nervous Tigers rookie manager acting like one by running all over in his initial spring of being in charge.

You’ll find no signs of being nervous in Ausmus.

Plus his rapport with his players is already being established.

Or else Ausmus wouldn’t have been able to say about Joba Chamberlain, who won the Rag Ball agility drill for pitchers Monday: “He was not my pick.

“Someone said it’s the first 12th seed that’s ever won a championship.”

Good line, Brad.

What’s more, good camp so far.
