Let's Talk Food (& maybe win a cookbook): 'Go Red for Women'

How could we miss a chance to celebrate heart-healthy recipes...in February? (American Heart Association)

As I face a particularly busy patch at work, with two editor vacations and another out due to a loss in her family, it’s going to be quiet on the Let’s Talk Food front for a bit — with one exception.

Though I receive a fair number of cookbooks in the mail, Kate, our food writer — if you have somehow missed her beautiful Simply the Best columns, check them out here — often brings me those we offer in giveaways.

Last week, Kate brought me the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” cookbook for a possible giveaway. How can you not squeeze in that giveaway as a nod to National Heart Month? (Kate’s really good about keeping up with such things; check out her own nod to National Heart Month with a look at some cook kitchen utensils here; you’ll find her feting National Soup Month there, too.)

In any case, “Go Red for Women,” which celebrates the association’s 10th anniversary of this effort to bring attention to heart health, offers 200 recipes aimed at eating nutritiously, from Baja Shrimp Bowls to Garlicky Greek Salad Pizza to Chocolate and Red Wine Mini Cupcakes.

It also offers tips for shopping and planning for heart-healthy menus, in addition to information on heart-disease risk and prevention.
