Ann Arbor — Robert Neumann has been appointed as chief of the University of Michigan Police Department.
The Ann Arbor school announced the selection Tuesday. Neumann most recently served as a lieutenant with the department.
Neumann graduated from Madonna University and has served at the University of Michigan since 1985, when he was one of the original six officers hired when the university created a sworn police force in 1990. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1999.
The appointment is effective immediately.
