Dani Crandall’s layup and subsequent free throw on a three-point play with 6.7 seconds left lifted visiting Grand Valley State to a 65-64 victory over Wayne State in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s basketball Saturday.
Crandall also nearly stole the ball on the following inbounds play as Wayne State wasn’t able to get off a final shot. The game-winning play capped a 15-point comeback for the Lakers (14-11, 12-9 GLIAC).
Crandell finished with a team-high 16 points while Bailey Cairnduff had 11 and Kayla Dawson 10.
Wayne State’s Shareta Brown had 22 points and 14 rebounds, completing her 14th double-double of the season, while Imari Redfield added 14 points.
Despite their third straight loss, the No. 21 Warriors (19-6, 16-5) can clinch the No. 1 seed in the GLIAC tournament with a win in their regular-season finale at home Thursday against Lake Superior State.
Central Michigan 85, (at) Northern Illinois 77: Crystal Bradford scored 29, including a career-best 10 free throws, as Central (17-9, 13-1) clinched the Mid-American Conference West Division title.

Grand Valley State 82, (at) Wayne State 73: Rob Woodson scored a career-high 29 to lead the Lakers (19-7, 17-7 GLIAC) who shot a scorching 72 percent from the field during the second half in a victory over the Warriors (11-13, 9-12).
Chaz Rollins scored 13, Trevin Alexander 12, Ryan Sabin 11 and Ricardo Carbajal 10 as Grand Valley had five players finish in double figures. Chene Phillips’ 22 points led Wayne State. Bryan Coleman also scored 20 while Jamar Ragland had 11 and Clark Bishop 10 for the Warriors, who wrap up the regular season at home Thursday against Lake Superior State.
