Alex Kile and Phil Di Giuseppe each scored two goals as No. 10 Michigan snapped a four-game winless streak with a 5-2 victory over Penn State Saturday at Yost Ice Arena.
Tyler Motte opened the scoring at 7:48 in the first period for the Wolverines (15-10-3, 7-6-1-1), who lost 5-4 in overtime Friday to the Nittany Lions. Michigan built a 4-0 lead before Penn State’s Curtis Loik scored at 12:24 in the third.
Taylor Holstrom added another goal for the Nittany Lions (6-20-2, 2-11-1) with 1:15 left before Di Giuseppe’s empty-netter sealed the win. Steve Racine made 18 saves in the Michigan net.
(At) No. 8 Wisconsin 2, Michigan State 0: Power-play goals by Joseph LaBate and Michael Mersch and shutout goaltending by Joel Rumpel (31 saves) propelled the Badgers (19-9-2, 10-5-1) to victory. The Spartans (9-15-7, 3-7-6-4) had a 31-30 edge in shots but went 0-for-5 on the power play.
