Lakeland, Fla. ó Notice the dateline?
Itís 11 a.m. and the Tigers still are in Lakeland ó although they are playing a 1:05 p.m. game, their first of the spring against major-league competition, at the Disney complex against the Braves.
No, their bus didnít break down.
Two buses are waiting outside the clubhouse here.
They are taking batting practice at home, though, with a plan to arrive at Disney at noon.
This is the Arizona approach of Brad Ausmus. For the close-by ballparks, the Tigers will hit at home ó the way they sometimes used to do for the short trip on back roads to Winter Haven.
But the road to Disney isnít a back road. Itís an interstate that can be a parking lot of traffic.
So that can be your first wish of the day for the Tigers. Clear sailing.
