Fresh off winning a gold medal at the Sochi Olympics, Metro Detroit figure skaters Meryl Davis and Charlie White are rather noncommittal about their immediate future.
“We’re thinking Hawaii,” Davis said, laughing, during an appearance by the duo Wednesday on the “Today Show.”
Davis, of West Bloomfield, and White, of Bloomfield Hills, said they still are debating whether they will participate in next month’s world championships in Japan.
After that, though, they definitely plan to participate in the 20-stop “Stars on Ice” tour later this year. That will make a stop at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit on April 27; tickets are on sale.
“That’s sort of, right now, what we’re looking forward to,” White said on the “Today Show.”
The duo, who won gold in the ice-dancing competition in Sochi and also won a bronze as part of the figure skating team, just recently arrived back in the United States. New York was their first stop, for the “Today Show” and a host of other media obligations, including an appearance on “The Colbert Report.” They soon will return home to Michigan.
Before that, though, they went for a skate on the ice rink at Rockefeller Center on Wednesday.
Though they appeared in the “Today Show” interview wearing their gold medals, the medals came off for the skate — only after considering keeping them on.
“We thought about it,” said White, “because we never want to take them off.”
