Spectrum Health expanding job program for veterans

A program in Grand Rapids designed to get jobs for military veterans is only a year old but already is looking to expand.

The Grand Rapids Press reports that the Spectrum Health Veteran Explorers Program had four participants in its pilot program in 2013. Three were hired by Spectrum Health and one was hired elsewhere.

The program rotates veterans through for 10 weeks each through three Spectrum departments. The second round is set to begin in March. Veterans receive resume help and are coached on how to draw from their experience to market themselves to employers.

LeMark Payne of Spectrum Health says the hope is to expand to 60 participants who will gain skills valuable for work with many employers.
