Jhonny Peralta easy to forget now that Tigers have Jose Iglesias

Lakeland, Fla. — Are the Tigers going to miss Jhonny Peralta?

Yes, but mostly no — and the only reason the question is being asked again is because Peralta is in the Cardinals’ lineup for Monday’s game against the Tigers, batting third and playing shortstop.

Why will the Tigers miss Peralta, even a little? Because there will be times they’ll miss his bat — if it remains productive.

Not only that, but his offense made his defense tolerable. Those of us who insisted Peralta was an acceptable shortstop realized how far from good he actually was when Jose Iglesias was acquired.

Nobody knows how much or how little Iglesias will hit, of course. But years of watching him play his position sounds exciting because they probably will be.

Letting Peralta walk as a free agent was not the wrong move.
