Let's Talk Food (& maybe win a cookbook): More 'Union Square' giveaways

'Mix, Shake, Stir: Cocktails for the Home Bar' features recipes from Danny Meyer's acclaimed New York City restaurants. )

My friend Dawn has been traveling in New York City the past week; before she went, I was asking if she’d be going to any Danny Meyer restaurants, after her previous great experience at the Union Square Cafe (read about it in a previous Let’s Talk Food giveaway here). They were among the possibilities, she told me — and I’m looking forward to hearing how that played out.

Meanwhile, when we gave away “The Union Square Cafe Cookbook” in January, I tweeted a link — and a very nice woman named Rebecca from Union Square saw the tweet and responded to say they’d love to add on some more books for our readers.

As a newspaper employee, you know it’s PR people’s jobs to — you know, promote what they represent. But you see enough of it, and the really good ones stand out fast. Rebecca impressed me because not only did she shoot me extra books for our readers without promise of further coverage — in fact, I wasn’t even planning on writing about them again, I was just going to look up readers who entered last time but didn’t win for this unusual second chance — but when one of the books didn’t arrive in the mail through some weird fluke, she went through the trouble of getting me another.

This TLC goes with what I’ve heard about Danny Meyer’s restaurants — exceptional service. So I thought I’d share the new books in a brand new giveaway, giving any reader a crack at them (and a slight advantage to those who entered last time, too, to honor Rebecca’s original good intentions).

“Second Helpings” by Danny Meyer and Michael Romano — which has the bonus of being a signed copy, by the by — touts “140 New Favorites from New York’s Acclaimed Restaurant.”

The second book, “Mix, Shake, Stir” (touting “cocktails for the home bar”), features recipes from Meyer’s New York City restaurants; not just Union Square Cafe, but another eight hot spots around the city, as well as tips and tools for mastering making cocktails at home.

If you’re interested in winning one of the books, send an email to Eats&Drinks@detroitnews.com with “Cookbook/Second Helpings” or “Cookbook/MixShakeStir” in the subject line, depending on which you’re interested in. Include your name and mailing address in the body. Enter only once by midnight March 16. A winner will be chosen at random from among entries. (If it’s March 17, 2014, or later when you read this, the giveaway will be over — but thanks for stopping by.)

Good luck!
