Gage’s 140 (words, not characters):
Lakeland, Fla. -- There are “anything can happen” statements, then there are “(seriously, folks) anything can happen” statements at the end of some spring trainings.
The latter is in play for the Tigers at the end of this spring training.
Numbers-wise, they got down to the Opening Day limit of 25 players on Thursday -- 25 plus their three injured players.
But manager Brad Ausmus wasn’t free to tell any player still keeping his fingers crossed that he’s made it.
That means outfielder Tyler Collins is still hoping, as are relief pitchers Evan Reed and Luke Putkonen.
The feeling is that the Tigers aren’t done -- that they could add at least one more veteran player before the season’s first pitch.
It won’t be a huge addition, but an addition all the same.
So -- seriously, folks -- anything can happen.
