Red Wings' Justin Abdelkader ejected, U.S. eliminated at world championships

Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader, who is playing for Team USA at the Men's World Ice Hockey Championships in Belarus, was ejected from a game against the Czech Republic on Thursday for a devastating hit on Vladimir Sobotka.

In the video above (mobile users click here) Abdelkader hits Sobotka (St. Louis Blues) high during a quarterfinal game. Abdelkader received a five-minute penalty and was ejected shortly thereafter. He already had been suspended for one game during the tournament for a knee-to-knee hit on a Kazakhstan player.

The United States ended up losing, 4-3, ending its run in the tournament. The Czech Republic advanced to the semifinals, where it will face Canada or Finland.
