Royal Oak — Authorities filed a murder charge against a 50-year-old man they said set fire to his house, killing his 69-year-old mother.
The fire happened Friday in Royal Oak.
44th District Court Judge Derek Meinecke ordered Timothy Beetschen jailed without bond Saturday on open-murder and arson charges in the death of Maxine Hadley. His next court appearance is June 6.
A message was left for defense lawyer Todd Flood on Tuesday seeking comment.
Police Chief Corrigan O’Donohue said Hadley called to say her son was trying to blow up their home.
O’Donohue said police arrived to find the house engulfed in flames and Beetschen trying to extinguish the blaze with a hose.
O’Donohue said Hadley’s body was found in the basement.
Authorities said Beetschen was treated for burns.
