The Lions waived defensive end Kourtnei Brown on Friday.
Brown joined the Lions in April after the team claimed him off waivers from the Buffalo Bills, but he has been limited during organized team activities due to an unspecified muscle strain.
Brown, an undrafted free agent out of Clemson in 2012 who also spent time with San Francisco and Washington, faced long odds of sticking with the Lions after they drafted defensive end Larry Webster in the fourth round.
The move creates an opening on the 90-man roster. The Lions worked out two veterans this week, defensive tackle Derek Landri and cornerback Terrell Thomas, and one could fill the hole.
