The Tigers and Mariners play the rubber game of a three-game series on Sunday at Safeco Field in Seattle; first pitch is 4:10 p.m. (FSD, 1270-AM and 97.1-FM). Here's what you need to know:

* Sunday's starter, Max Scherzer, despite falling off his season pace recently, is still sixth in the American League -- and first on the Tigers -- with 82 strikeouts. Scherzer has nine strikeouts total in his last two starts -- both no-decisions -- against the Indians and Athletics. Scherzer is averaging 7.45 strikeouts per outing and 10.3 per nine innings.

* The Tigers completed the month of May with a 17-12 record. The 17 wins is the most the Tigers have had in May since 2009, when they also won 17. The Tigers also stole 20 bases in May, the most they have had in that month since 2001, when they had 22.

* Rajai Davis and Miguel Cabrera carry hitting streaks into Sunday's series finale. Davis, who is hitting leadoff, has an eight-game hitting streak. Cabrera, who is hitting third, is on a seven-game streak.

* The Tigers have a day off Monday before opening a six-game homestand on Tuesday against the Blue Jays, followed by the Red Sox.
