The Tigers and Blue Jays conclude their three-game series on Thursday at Comerica Park as Detroit hopes to salvage one win. First pitch is 1:08 p.m., with Justin Verlander going for the Tigers (FSD, 1270-AM and 97.1-FM).

* New Tigers shortstop Eugenio Suarez was held out of Thursday's starting lineup with a sore knee. He was injured while sliding into second base on Wednesday night during his MLB debut.

* Thursday's starter, Justin Verlander (6-4), beat the Mariners in his last outing to end a personal two-game losing streak. Verlander's WHIP of 1.44 represents a career-high and it's well above his career average of 1.20.

* The Blue Jays have won four straight and 16 of their last 19 to build a 4.5-game lead in the American League East entering play Thursday. They are 36-24 and their .600 winning percentage is second-best in the American League (Oakland, .627) and third-best in the majors (San Francisco, .644).

* The Tigers play a three-game series against Boston over the weekend at Comerica Park -- and all three games are night starts. The Saturday (7:15, Fox) and Sunday (8:00, ESPN) games are on national TV.
