Detroit— Detroit Police were investigating the shooting death of a man early Saturday afternoon on the city’s west side.
Police are not indentifying the man, who they say is in his 30s. The man was shot several times and was lying dead on the ground in the alley behind an Auto Zone on the corner of Rutland and Plymouth just off the Southfield Freeway.
A witness found the man and reported it to police at 9:10 a.m.
Police did not provide any other information. It was unclear if the man was shot at the scene or if his body was left there.
Around noon, about 50 of the man’s family and neighbors gathered in an empty lot next to the alley. So many people came to the scene that police had to call in back up to secure the scene.
The police left around 1:30 p.m. although the crowd had not dispersed.
