Triple A Toledo

Who’s hot …

Ezequiel Carerra, OF: .313 in his last 10 games before Sunday and .313 on the season (48 games). Carrera, 28, and a left-handed hitter, is insurance the Tigers could summon, especially when speed and defense are his strong suits.

Hernan Perez, 2B/SS: Batting .317 in his last 10 games, with a .914 OPS, which includes a home run, triple, and four doubles.

And who’s not …

Tyler Collins, OF: .189 in his last 10 games (.637 OPS), .236 on the season (.692 OPS). Collins needs a big second half to crack Detroit’s plans for a right-field opening in 2015.

Double A Erie

Who’s hot …

Devon Travis, 2B: .415 in his last 10 games, with a 1.185 OPS. Had to heal from an oblique strain, and has since healed at the plate. Travis, 23, and a 13th-round pick in 2012 from Florida State, might be the Tigers’ top position prospect. He is 5-9, 195, and bats right-handed.

Steven Moya, RF: .310 in his last 10 games, with a .968 OPS, which includes four home runs. Moya, 22, is 6-6, 230 and bats left-handed.

Dean Green, DH: .306 in his last 10 games, with an .814 OPS. Green, 24, is 6-4, 255, bats left-handed, and was an 11th-round pick in 2011 (Barry University).

And who’s not …

Warwick Saupold, RH starter: Surprising falloff for Saupold, who in his last 10 games has a 6.97 ERA and a .304 opposing batting average. Saupold is 24, is 6-1, 195, and was signed out of Perth, Australia.

Single A Lakeland

Who’s hot …

Jeff McVaney, OF: Finally warming up: .325, with a .945 OPS, in his last 10 games before Sunday. The Tigers drafted McVaney in the eighth round (Texas State) in 2012. He is 6-2, 210, and bats right-handed.

Connor Harrell, OF: .325 in his last 10 games. Harrell is a Vanderbilt product (seventh round), drafted in 2013. He is 6-3, 215, bats right-handed, and is 23.

Jake Thompson, RH starter: On his way to being Tigers Minor League Pitcher of the Year the way he has been throwing. Thompson was the Tigers’ first pick in 2012 as a prep star out of suburban Dallas. He is 6-1 on the season, with a 1.65 ERA and 1.03 WHIP.

And who’s not …

Dixon Machado, SS: Simply hasn’t come together with the bat: .161 in his last 10 games and .224 on the season, divided between Lakeland and Erie.

Single A West Michigan

Who’s hot …

Austin Schotts, OF: Tigers’ second pick in 2012 is doing decently following a long injury layoff: .306 in his nine games on the season, with an .831 OPS. Schotts is 20, and a right-handed batter who runs 5-11, 180.

Austin Kubitza, RH starter: Another candidate for mid-season promotion. Kubitza, 22, is 6-5, 225, and was a fourth-round pick (Rice) in 2013. On the season (11 starts), he is 6-0, with a 2.08 ERA and 1.08 WHIP, and .197 opposing batting average.

Kevin Ziomek, RH starter: 2.26 ERA in 10 starts, with an opposing batting average of .206. Ziomek, 6-3, 200, is 22 and was a second-round pick in 2013 (Vanderbilt).

And who’s not …

Ben Verlander, OF: Miserable stretch for Verlander, a 14th-round pick (Old Dominion) in 2013: .118 in his last 10 games, with a .284 OPS.
