Detroit Symphony to play 4 community concerts

Detroit — The Detroit Symphony Orchestra will perform four concerts at venues selected from those nominated by communities.

The shows this fall will be conducted by music director Leonard Slatkin.

The last time a competition of this kind was held was in 2012. That year, the winning venues included Anchor Bay, Ann Arbor Pioneer , Clarkston, Mount Clemens and Wayne Memorial high schools.

This year’s nomination deadline is Thursday at noon.

To be eligible, the venue must be within a 45-mile radius of Orchestra Hall in Detroit; able to accommodate a full orchestra; and have an audience capacity of at least 400 secured by the nominee.
