Detroit — A 7-year-old boy was seriously injured Sunday night on the city’s west side when was attacked by a dog, then shot by a would-be good Samaritan who tried to wound the animal, police said.
An unknown individual found the boy being mauled at 8 p.m. Sunday in the 7600 block of Warwick, prompting the man to brandish a gun and fire upon the dog, according to Officer Adam Madera.
The person apparently shot the boy in the buttocks in his attempt to put down the dog, Madera said.
“He also suffered minor scratches,” Madera said about the boy’s injuries from the dog attack.
The boy was taken to a local hospital, where he was listed in temporary serious condition Sunday night.
Responding police officers also found the dog dead on scene from an apparent gunshot wound but the shooter had the left the scene. Madera said the police report did not indicate what type of dog was involved in the attack.
Police have no description of the shooter; however, he or she is not believed to have been the owner of the dog.
