Detroit firefighter suffers minor injuries in rubbish fire

Detroit A firefighter suffered minor injuries battling a rubbish fire Tuesday night on the city's southwest side, according to officials.

Fire crews responded late Tuesday night to a large pile of discarded garbage, which included hazardous materials, in an alleyway near Reeder and Campbell. In the late stages of extinguishing smoldering areas, the firefighter tripped and injured his knee, the Fire Department said.

He was taken to Midwest Medical Center in Detroit, where he was treated and released.
