Aretha Franklin reveals love for Cracker Barrel
Aretha Franklin appeared on the “Live with Kelly and Michael” show Wednesday morning, sang a few songs (including B.B. King’s “Sweet 16”) and promoted her upcoming shows at Radio City Music Hall in New York this Saturday and Sunday. Kelly Ripa added, “and she’ll be at the Detroit Amphitheater July 12.” While we were high-fiving news of our new amphitheater, Aretha gently corrected her, “That’s DTE Energy Theatre July 12.” Ree also revealed that she likes to stop her tour bus at Cracker Barrel, where “it’s all about the chicken and dumplings.” When guest co-host Anderson Cooper said she was looking good, the Queen of Soul replied that she keeps on a walking regime ... walking the aisles at superstores, including “Wal-Mart, K-Mart and Meijer.” If someone recognizes her, she keeps on rolling. “I don’t want to lose my pace,” she said.
Chappelle visits Letterman for a rare interview
Comedian Dave Chappelle made his first late night talk show appearance in about six years Tuesday when he stopped by the “Late Show with David Letterman.” He (sort of) addressed leaving his massively popular “Chappelle Show” on Comedy Central. “I don’t talk about it,” he said. “Technically, I never quit. I’m seven years late for work.” Letterman also grilled him about hightailing it to South Africa after leaving his show, in spite of the huge paycheck. “Money is the fuel for choices, money gives me choices ... but it’s not the end all, be all,” said Chappelle. “There are other things in my life that I did not purchase with money that are very valuable.”
Dave Coulier engaged to his longtime girlfriend
Congratulations to Detroit’s own Dave Coulier. The “Full House” star is engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Melissa Bring, a photographer and producer. “Melissa has been, truly, my best friend for nine years,” he told People Magazine. “We simply thought we would just make it a lifetime. I can’t wait.” According to the magazine, the St. Clair Shores native (a graduate of Notre Dame High School) will tie the knot July 2.
“Destiny’s Child” singer Kelly Rowland, who married Tim Witherspoon last month, is pregnant with her first child. She made the announcement via Instagram this week.
