Detroit native Jason Karmanos hired for Penguins' front-office job

Detroit native Jason Karmanos has been named vice president of hockey operations for the Pittsburgh Penguins. He will assist executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.

Karmanos, 40, worked with Rutherford when they were with the Carolina Hurricanes. Karmanos was in the front office for that franchise, owned by his father, Peter Karmanos, from 1998-2013.

Jason Karmanos was fired by the Hurricanes last September.

Peter Karmanos also owns the Plymouth Whalers.
