Windham (Ferndale Police Department)
Ferndale — A clerk facing charges of stealing about $7,500 from a Ferndale store by ringing up dozens of false refunds told police she needed the money to help her mother’s failing business.
Stacy Windham was arrested earlier this week and arraigned Thursday in court in Ferndale on charges of felony embezzlement and ordered jailed in lieu of $10,000 bond.
Police said officers were called to the Western Market on Nine Mile after owners noticed “unusual money transactions” in their records over the past six months.
Investigators said evidence shows since December, Windham had been regularly taking money from cash registers by ringing up false refunds and then pocketing the refunds. Police said register records show at least 80 of the “refunds” were made by Windham.
