Pontiac — A registered sex offender is jailed and is expected to face charges, including attempted kidnapping, after allegedly approaching a 15-year-old girl Thursday.
A preliminary report from Oakland County Sheriff's deputies indicates the girl complained the suspect, a 55-year-old man, attempted to abduct her Thursday afternoon near Cesar Chavez and Johnson streets. The man asked for her phone number and said he wanted to have sex with the girl who ran when he attempted to grab her.
Deputies said a citizen stopped to assist the girl and called 911. A description of the suspect and the vehicle he was in was put out and it was spotted nearby and pulled over by deputies. The suspect and a 42-year-old man who was driving the vehicle were taken into custody, the young man later was released following questioning.
The suspect is expected to be charged with attempted kidnapping, a five-year felony and also accosting a child for immoral purposes, punishable by up to four years in prison.
