I’ll be the first to admit that today’s column is rather technical and data driven but it provides a ton of information if you’re heading to downtown Detroit for the Ford Fireworks display at Hart Plaza Monday evening.
Here are the Michigan Department of Transportation’s fireworks closures (closing times may vary depending on traffic volumes and the Detroit Police Department) for Monday.
Heading into downtown Detroit
■M-1 (Woodward) will be closed between Interstate 75 and Adams from 6 p.m. until midnight.
■M-85 (Fort) will be closed between Washington and Griswold from 6 p.m. until midnight.
■M-10 (Lodge Freeway) will be closed from Woodward to I-75 from 6 p.m. until midnight.
■I-375 will be closed from I-75 to Jefferson from 6 p.m. until midnight.
■NB I-75 to SB I-375 closed from 6 p.m. until midnight.
■NB I-75 to NB Lodge and SB I-75 to SB Lodge closed from 6 p.m. until midnight.
■SB Gratiot to NB I-75 is closed from 6 p.m. until midnight.
■SB Gratiot from I-375 to Jefferson closed from 6 p.m. until midnight.
■EB Jefferson to the SB Lodge closed from 6 p.m. until midnight.
■U.S. 12 (Michigan) ramps are closed from Third to Cass from 6 p.m. until midnight.
■Mack ramp to SB I-75 closed from 5 p.m. until 2 a.m.
■NB I-75 ramp to Warren closed from 8 p.m. until 2 a.m.
■NB I-75 ramp to Mack closed from 8 p.m. until 2 a.m.
■Warren ramp to NB I-75 closed from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m.
■Mack ramp to NB I-75 closed from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m.
The operational hours for the Detroit People Mover will be from 6:30 a.m. until midnight.
Because of the event, the Cobo, Millender and Renaissance Center stations will be closed with no public access available.
Spectators will be asked to exit at the nearest available station with the Bricktown, Financial District and Joe Louis Arena (via the always fun RiverWalk) stations well within walking distance to Hart Plaza.
Fares are 75 cents each way with kids 5 and younger riding free.
