Southfield— A motorist was seriously injured Friday morning after swerving into another driving on Interstate 696, according to Michigan State Police.
The crash occurred at 6 a.m. on eastbound I-696 just east of the Greenfield Road, when a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado swerved into the gore area — triangular point where roads merge or split — and then veered back into the right lane of the freeway, striking a Chevrolet Traverse, Lt. Michael Shaw said.
Both drivers were taken to a local hospital, where the driver of the Silverado, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was listed in serious condition, and the driver of the Traverse was treated for minor injuries.
It is unclear if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call State Police at (248) 584-5782.
