Police believe speed was a factor in the death of a 20-year old Oakland County man who was killed Saturday night on I-75 in Grand Blanc Township after his car nearly split in half.
The man, who has not been identified, was ejected from his 2011 Chevrolet Cruze around 7:30 p.m. at the Dort Highway overpass after the vehicle left the road and struck a bridge abutment, Grand Blanc Township police said in a statement. His car shifted from the left lane through the middle and into right then back across the middle before he lost control and struck two bridge abutments.
The car’s speed, they said, was estimated to be more than 100 mph. Southbound I-75 was closed for nearly four hours after the crash.
Police said the driver was not wearing a seat belt. He was taken to Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc where he was pronounced dead.
The accident is under investigation by the department’s Crash Investigation Reconstruction Team.
