Detroit – The Red Wings have a chance to take advantage of a favorable schedule for the first two weeks of the 2014-15 regular season.

The Wings start the season with three consecutive home games -- including the opener against Boston on Thursday, Oct. 9 -- and play five of their first seven at Joe Louis Arena.

After Boston, the Wings host Anaheim on Oct. 11 and the Bruins again on Oct. 15.

The Wings then play a home-and-home against Toronto. After a visit to Montreal Oct. 21, the Wings will host Pittsburgh Oct. 23.

The Red Wings will host all Original Six opponents at least once at Joe Louis Arena and play a total of 19 games against Original Six teams – including five each against Atlantic Division rivals Toronto and Boston.

Single game tickets for the regular season go on sale Aug. 22.

Among the season highlights:

* A Halloween game against the defending Stanley Cup champion Kings at Joe Louis Arena.

* The rival Blackhawks make their only visit to Joe Louis Arena on Nov. 14.

* The Red Wings continue their tradition of playing on Thanksgiving Eve (Nov. 26 vs. Philadelphia) and New Year's Eve (Dec. 31 vs. New Jersey).

* They also play on Valentine's Day (Feb. 14 vs. Winnipeg) and Easter (April 5 vs. Washington).

* Starting Nov. 30 against Vancouver, the Wings will play 10 of 12 games at Joe Louis Arena leading up to Christmas.

* Detroit also will finish the 2014-15 campaign with a home-friendly slate, as eight of the team's last 12 games will be at Joe Louis Arena.
