Red Wings drafts: Hits and misses of the past two decades

Detroit Some hits, some real big hits, some misses, and a whole lot of players who never made it at all.

That pretty much sums up the last 20 years of NHL entry drafts for the Red Wings, who'll get another chance Friday and Saturday in the 2014 edition in Philadelphia.

Players like Niklas Kronwall and Jiri Fischer dropped down in the first round and turned into premier NHL players.

Players like Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk were picked on the second day of the draft and have become mega-stars.

But for all the hits, there have been misses, too.

Remember goalie Tom McCollum? Hes played one game with the Red Wings, but otherwise hasn't made it past Grand Rapids. Forward Cory Emmerton never could win a job, and Igor Grigorenko never made it past training camp.

Here's a look at some of the notable hits and misses of the last Red Wings draft classes. Check them out in the gallery above, or by clicking here.
