Comedian Tim Allen highjacked the open mic night at Mark Ridley’s Comedy Club in Royal Oak Wednesday night. The club teased the performance via social media this week, causing the $3 seats to sell out quickly. The Seaholm High School and Western Michigan University graduate and “Home Improvement” star took the stage after 8 p.m. and did a set of material to a packed house.
Long lost stash of Bob Dylan records found
A treasure trove of nearly 150 unknown Bob Dylan records were uncovered during the estate sale of a woman who lived in Greenwich Village. According to the Guardian, Dylan had rented space in the house in the late 1960s and early ’70s. The acetate records, found in a box marked “old records,” are believed to be unreleased versions of songs and outtakes that include covers of Johnny Cash songs. Some of the records are already on sale at recordmecca.com for upwards of $7,000 each.
Classic rockers' buses catch fire
Tour buses for crews of classic rock groups Styx and Foreigner (which are on tour together) caught fire Wednesday, TMZ reported. The cause of the fire was not immediately known, but reports say one vehicle caught fire and it spread to the other. The incident did not appear to affect scheduling of the tour, which hits the Freedom Hill Amphitheatre on July 10.
Jewel and Ty Murry split
Jewel and her husband Ty Murray are getting divorced. The singer and rodeo pro married in 2008 and have a 3-year-old son. Jewel said on her website that the split is amicable and wrote that they are “allowing ourselves the time and space to redefine what we are to each other with love rather than malice.”
■Actor Bob Hastings died this week at age 89. He was best known for playing Lt. Elroy Carpenter on the 1960s sitcom “McHale’s Navy.” He had been battling pancreatic cancer for several years.
■Best-selling children’s author Walter Dean Myers died Tuesday. He was known for the books “Monster” and “Lockdown,” among many others. He was 76.
