Former Michigan big man Mitch McGary was thought to be a stretch to be a first-round pick in the NBA draft after declaring early following his sophomore season.
But McGary, picked 21st by the Oklahoma City Thunder, continues to prove his doubters wrong. McGary signed his rookie contract with the Thunder, the team announced on Saturday.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
McGary, a 6-foot-10 forward, is scheduled to begin his pro career with the Thunderís summer league team in Orlando later Saturday.
McGary was a preseason All-America selection but played in only eight games with Michigan last season, prior to back surgery in January.
